Piercefield Picturesque Walk, Chepstow, Monmouthshire.

A466, 1/2 mile north of Chepstow. Park at school and leisure centre, south of racecourse, and follow Wye River Walk in northerly direction.

One of the most famous of all Sublime / Picturesque walks and essential for Wye tourists of the day, it was largely created from 1752 – 72 by Valentine Morris the Younger and follows the Wye river cliff, culminating in 365 steps up to the Eagle’s Nest (early 19th century) on the Wyndcliff. There were numerous Picturesque features and view points, praised by Shenstone , Pushkin Sir Joseph Banks and others, some of which survive.
